I am in need of a new driver suit, I have outgrown mine in about every direction. But I dont have a ton to spend on a custom suit. Anyways, I want a multilayer nomex no proban suit, and I want a one piece black. What brands do you guys recomend? or where is the best place for a good deal? I want a good safe 2 layer min suit, nomex not proban. But do not have to have one that is custom made.

A friend of mine bought one off the internet somewhere. It was a nice looking suit. Once piece. The name of it was like K-1 or something like that, it was SFI certified. I'll get in touch with him and find out where he got it. I remember it was like $115. I think it was a two-layer also.

Ok it was K1 Speed. Its a store on E-bay. I went and checked them out and they are cheap, but I think they are all Go-Kart suits. Also isn't SFI approved its CIK/FIA approved, not sure what that is. I figure its some sort of karting certification. So you probably don't want one of those suits. Sorry for the mis-info before!!

My last suit was a Simpson 1 pc,$600.00 two layer. Lasted 5 years.
This year I got a suit from hinchman of indy. http://www.hinchmanindy.com/custom.htm
great quality and less expensive then the Simpson.

My suit, 2 peice with some design work and stuff was around 850 from Fast Company in Mason City. Well worth the money.

As long as the SFI cert, for 9 seconds is current, why would a 600 dollar suit be better than a 200 suit?

LOL

That doesn't even deserve a response. You should know better.

I agree with Leapin, if they are both made form quality materials, and both pass the same specs then the only difference is looks. Looks dont help the car go any faster. I will agree I would prefer a custom made suit to fit and look cool but right now i need other stuff for my car, so a off the rack one will do.

Custom sizing at no extra charge. Very happy with the fit and look of my 3 layer suit. (not as happy as i was 10 lbs ago)

looks, comfort, durability, stitching, quality control. That will make a difference in a 200 or 800 dollar suit. It depends on how often you want to buy a suit. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for.

You know, racers always amaze me. They'll spend thousands of dollars on the latest porting, carbs, intakes, and event TC! But turn around and cut corners on safety... I don't get it. Most drivers don't wear nomex underwear even under single layer suit and I've even seen one with a karting suit with no fire rating?! The same goes for fire bottles... a $15 extingushier might get you past tech (it shouldn't though) but it ain't going to cut it when you really need it.

How much is your life worth?

I got a 2-layer for less than $200.00 and half way through the season I was having to restitch some of the seams. You get what you pay for.

IT HAS TO PASS SFI 5 FOR ME TO WEAR IT. BUt i dont see the need to pay for a fancy look right now. SO I am not cutting corners on my saftey. I will also only wear nomex suits no proban. And 2-3 layer before I will consider it. BUt over 1000 for a suit to be custom made is too far from my price range.

Zero look at the G-Force European style suit. It comes with 360 arm gussets, back gussets, and boot cut for your legs. For $399 from from fendors in magazines this is a good buy.

I looked at these suits last year at the PRI show and was impressed with them. If I decide to buy a new suit for next year for a spare this will be what I buy.

It is the GF-545 suit.

Check out Leaf I got one custom sized with a few options before last year for around $450. By the way I Highly recomend the radial cut shoulders (elastic between arm and shoulder), one of the more pricey options but worth every penny.

You need to look at the tpp rating. I just got mine I didn't have a lot to spend as most racers when it comes to safety but I decided to get a good one. The first race with the new suit my car caught on fire a gas and oil fire It is amazing how long it takes to get out especially if you havent practiced. I would not get a tpp lower than 24 that is about what you can get out of a good 2 layer
