I was reading thru the Pierce cars thread and it struck my curiosity about tubing size. I have an older mod that is built 1 3/4" main cage, 1 1/2" front and rear. It also has a "big metric" (impala) front end. All my friends say it's way too heavy to think about running up front with because of the big mtric front and the main cage. All the newer cars around here are all 1.5" that are winning the races. My guess is chrome moly also.
I'm curious as to your opinion if you think that the car is too much heavier to think about running, or is the difference in weight not significant enough to overcome? It can be lightened some by removing some tubes here and there that aren't quite necessary.
I'd appreciate any thoughts you may have, as I'm debating on getting another car or not.

We have a 2400# weight rule. I haven't had the chance to weigh the car yet. Originally bought for parts, but frame is still in nice shape. Kinda torn between stripping it, or just redoing the car and see what it does. Common sense tells me the lighter the better, but I was thinking 1.75" might not be a bad thing 'round the main cage. Any builders still using 1.75" or is that pretty much a thing of the past?

I appreciate you clearing that up for me. Is IMCA all 1.75" or just around main cage?
