Is 38* to much total timing for a 355 with 9 to 1 compression on pump gas?

depends on the heads. i run 36 with stock chev heads, 32 with vortec. you may have to move it around a little, between 30-38, to find what feels the best.

I know a guy in my area that runs 40 on a 355 compression is 9 to 1 and he burns pump gas. Asked him why he ran that much and he said cause that's where the dyno likes it.
