well, we tried the straight bar , with lots of angle, like 30*

it seemed to hook up ok but keeping it hooked is a chore (gets tight and pushy unless your on the loud pedal all the time)so we put the j bar back on.

my feeling is that my (21")bar will work given maybe some driving style and setup changes.
the thing is that its either on or off and its so erratic with my short 4 bar setup

anyone else having success with this, i know that some guys are...you know who you are and i wont mention names here unless you reply, i am looking for feedback and suggestions so i can iron this out before the season is over.
it seems that the other guys using this at our track look like pogo sticks too, on and off and in the way unless theres no traffic around them,..... then theyre on a rail.

e mail me if you dont wish to post here please.

I am also looking for suggestions. I have tried two different lengths of straight bar (12" and 19"). I could not get either one to turn in the center and either one made the car very radical. It's good getting in but as soon as you pick up the throttle it pushes. Then breaks loose after finally getting it to turn. I run a 2-link short swing arm on the left with a 2-link long bar on the right. I was thinking that I might need more rear steer but can I get enough with the two-link. Going back to a j-bar now but on the dry-slick most of the faster cars are using a straight bar but they are all 4-links.

you had too much angle in it to start, and if your car requires a J bar and you put a shorter bar on there, you'll want to move the rearend to the right 1.5 inches from where it should be. On the 2 link deal... You can get as much rear steer as you want, but the increased bar angles will tend to make the car tighter. You might try a little more left side weight

the only reason we put that much angle in was to hopefully get the roll center to be not so low and get more sidebite, which is why it was so tight i imagine(too much sidebite)

we run a 4 link rear.

do you run this setup? whats your bar length?
how much angle do you run and are you in the center under the pinion?

we tried putting a ton of angle in our shorty bar deal, it seemed to work better the more angle we got as long as we ran PLENTY of stagger to keep the car turned.

Have you ever thought about running a longer rear mount panhard bar. I run 1 this year after running a short bar last year and like it. Car is not as erratic. Bar is about 23in long. This is with a 4-z or a 4-2,

I ran it @ Oshkosh pratice and was the first time i ran it, It worked awsome and i didn't have any angle in it at all, Now i run about a 2.5 to 3in split in it. The only time it's tight is during hot laps and some heats @ BD but the track conditions su#k most of the time. As for racing Oshkosh I have to be to work @ 5am and it kind of makes for a long day. As for Schruufnagel's run it don't surprise me?????????. Next time you are down stop over so we can shoot the S##t. c-ya \m/

the amount of stagger depends on what tires you have, with the mccrearys 1/2-1 is plenty and with the hoosiers you'd probably need between 2 to 3 inches. but when you do it like that you still have all the sidebite from the bar, and your car isnt overly tight because of stagger.
Our bar is about 12" long its very low on pinion side but not mounted under pinion

we have a 4z set up and run the straight bar when it dries out. we run about 15degrees of angle. have it on the 2nd hole from top on pinion. just have to run plenty of stagger though as previously stated. were on hoosiers so we run about 2 1/2 inches or so.we tried it last week on wet heavy track but it was too stinking tight. last year we had a swingarm car and ran it on there as well, just took the jbar off, locked the left rear down, took the left rear trailing arm off,and put on the straight bar. left everything else. worked great.
