What do you guys run in your floater rears?
I run 80-90 now(convential) but was thinking of going to synthetic fluid, i was told it would lower the rear gear temp. So what are you guys running?

I run Amsoil full synthetic, 75w90. I've run it for 4 years and haven't had a gear failure yet. The full synthetic did lower the temp of the rearend over the petroleum lube I started with.

Why switch? Lower gear temps. Which will give you more longevity of your gears. The last time a gear went out me, it also took out my $250 driveshaft and the bearing in the end of the transmission.

Definitely use synthetic. Gear oil temps get very high in racing and we all know synthetic takes the heat better. When a ran conventional it always came out with that burnt smell. The synthetic never does and we run it much longer.

I use Red-Line Shock Proof. 40 Bux a Gallon, buy 2 at a time. That way you can have a gallon in the car and one in the trailer for gear changes. No need to funnel the old stuff back into the car right away. The stuff can be re-used time and time and time again.

I noticed that when I switched to synthetic it start leaking past the axle seals. What is the fix for this? I thought someone said to pack the axle bearings?

I've noticed the same thing since switching to amsoil, but mine leaks a little from the front, right where the pinion goes in.
