I got a rear in trade with a friend. It measures 61 inches from axle flange to axle flange. My axles lengths are the same. But my measurement from the left flange to the center of the pinion is 32 5/8 and the right is 28 1/4. Giving me a of 4 3/8 difference. If put this in my leaf mod centered by the axles and not the pinion, what problems would i create for myself if any? Thanks in advance.

first thing that comes to mind is the driveshaft. then, if the center section is that far offset what about your panhard bar?? It would be pretty long wouldn't it?? Of course you could just move the chassis mount over.

Drive shaft angles are hosed on these cars anyway. Usually when i work on street cars / hot rods i try to set up the rear end in a certain way. Crank CL to Pinion CL parrell, but not on the same plane (side view) and looking from top down in the same plane (lonitudally) (sp?), parrell, and not in line. I read in a book some years back that its called phasing of the drivshaft, so the universals rotate properly and dont cause any wierd harmonics and or vibrations.

Anyway, we ran our car last year with a housing that was bad offset to one side. The only problem i really had was the panhard bar had to be real short. I didnt notice any real issues with the driveshaft.

Kromulous, how short is to short on straight panhard bar? The reason Iam asking about a 12" bar is all we can get to work .

I have ran as short as 8". Car was RADICAL not very fun to drive LOL! As far as the driveshaft.....mine is straight in line, thats where I like to keep it IMO.

This setup we are gonna try, doesnt include a panhard bar. It has a 175 chrysler left side and a 143 right side, on sliders. On dryslick the right side will be floated using a Southwest Speed bolt on floater. On tacky it will be locked.

Do you mean multi-leafs on both sides? I'm curious to find out how it turns out. Keep me updated! Thanks
