A sponsor bought me a barrel of methanol for my mod, but when I saw it I realized it is industrial methanol. Anyone know about this stuff? Is it alright to use or is it different from what we would buy for a race car.

methanol is menthanol. Look on the label on the drum for the purity label. If it says 99% then its fine. All menthanol is made by Methanex. VP and other will lie to you and tell you that you need the so called race grad methanol. In reality there is NO such thing they key is the purity.

For years we have been running methanol in a gray colored drum that just says methanol and a purity rating on the label.

Add lube and go race !

I agree with brownstone,my engine builder buys the industrial fuel and we have had no issues with it.The carb. and filter are no cleaner nor dirtier than using the " race grade stuff ".Don't be afraid of using it.

Just don't forget about the purity issue. Some of the Ind. Methanol is not 99.9% pure. We had some guys around here run into problems a couple of years ago. The Methanol they were getting had contamination in it, and it didn't say anything about purity.

Industral grade Meth is not the same as race grade. Some industrail grades are not filtered as well as others. Also some industral grades are recycled from dry cleaner company's. I'm not saying the fuel is bad, its just not for racing. gl ltr

I know a local supplier gets his from a solvent company. I would have to call or stop by that solvent company to find out the purity.

i work for a chemical co. and get all mine right here. upon comparing the msds sheets for quality, i discovered that the industrial stuff we have here is more pure than anything else and its worked good for me for a long time now.

We bought ours for years from Pipeline Oil Sales and he is a Sunoco Dealer, among other fuels. He laughs when people ask him about the so called Race Grade alky.

He has told me several times that ALL methanol is made by Methanex, all other are just posers just charging more for it by calling it race grade.

Again just look at the purity label if its 99.9 you will be fine and will almost always pay less than the same stuff from the name brands, like VP. Case is point if I buy VP it costs me $140 a drum, 99.9%, If I buy industrial grade in a gray barrell same purity I pay $115. You can keep the fancy VP barrell and the lies about race grade, been running the other stuff trouble free for YEARS !
