Rear mount starter on a bert bell. Starter kicked in but wouldn't mesh with the small gear, grind noise, so we threw a new starter on it. This acts the same way. Is it the spring on the back side of the idler gear in the bell? The teath looked good when we changed starters.

I did call the folks at Bert. There is a bushing inside the dual idler gear assembly that needs to be replaced every 2 yrs or so. Just sharing info to help anyone else with same problem. THX

Hey, mine started to do the same thing now! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check out the bushing in the idler gear, but I bet it's worn out. I've got three years of racing on mine.
