i have a z-4 setup on a dw8 and was pondering taking the top bar off on the rr and locking the birdcage, it would really be like a 4 link lr and a 3 link type rr.
anyone doing this with success and what difference do you need in setup to compensate?
i have everything in place to do it but until my car is handling good as a 4-z i wont do it.
replies on spring changes, location of springs and handling would be appreciated.

We are going to run the 2 link rr and 4 link lr, on a super black dryslick track. The set up can lead to a very tight on the gas car, mine will be tight on and off the gas, because of rr spring is behind the axle clamped up, and rr brake is floated.
i will post how it was after friday night when i try it out.

Isnt Harris cars running something like this now? 2 Link RR, and a 4 Link LR? I remember a thread about it awhile back anyway.

Why would the 2 Link be tighter on throttle than the swing arm / z-link?

With the BC clamped to the tube, it should gain more rear steer as you apply the throttle, or am i incorrrect in my thinking?

his could just be due to the fact that he also runs a clamped up slider on the lr in front.

I ran my car with this type of set-up at a fall classic last year and loved it. Worked real good on the rubbered up more then the dry. My rr spring is on the swing-arm though and did not change the spring rate.

I just ran this set up on my car last weekend. Did not get to run the feature because we were rained out but the car felt good in the heat race. The track was fairly tacky. I have the LR behind on the birdcage and the RR clamped behind the axle. 225 lr and a 200 rr. the way it was explained to me when you let off the throtle going into the turn it will load the rr because the pinion drops forcing the spring up into the car. We ran a 4/z link last year and the car was always loose on entry and we had no side bite. So far this set up seems alright.

I've been running this setup all year with both springs behind. LR on the cage, RR clamped. The car can be VERY tight on the gas but you can adjust it out. The LR upper bar will usually fix it. It did mine. I am happy with the setup. It has taken my car to the front. Try it I think you'll like it.

Got some questions about this set up, if you guys could help me out.

What kinda panhard bar is best with it?
Shorty (left side of pinion), longer shorty (under the pinion), or a J-Bar.

Do you run any RR trail, to help it getting in?

How much LR bite?

RR shock placement? I am assuming that the LR shock will go in front. The RR in front to i guess, would a coilover deal work on the RR?

What kinda pull bar angle? and has anyone ever ran this with a pullbar and a torque arm / brake chain?

Thanks for any help?
