Just changed around the rear of our mod and know have provisions to run a j bar or shorty to the left side of the pinion. I would like to know what you guys think about the short bars, how they react and the best times to use them. We run a 1/2 mile fairly flat track that runs the gamit from real tacky to super slick any night. Bar would be about 19" long.I would really apreciate a starting point for pinion mount height and bar angle. This is a 4 bar car.
Thanx,
Brett

My wife could answer that better than I could.

if your going to run a short bar start with one inch of difference and play with it moving up on chassis side a quater inch at a time up to inch and a half much more angle and it gets inconsistent on pinon side mount it in center hole

Also be careful for a BAD push! We have to drop to around 50lbs of bite when we goto a straight bar as the bar loads the left rear more than the right.

Thanx again. We were only going to go to the sort bar when we need more left bite and use the j bar the rest of the time. I like to build in as many tuning options as possible

I wouldnt consider 19" a 'shortie' bar. Our jbar is no more than 19", and our short bar is 11".

The shorter it is the quicker it will react. On a tacky or rough track the longer jbar will work better, but when it slicks off and is smooth and you need quicker reaction and bite the short bar will work better for some drivers.

Id start it about even with the pinion or at the same level as your jbar on the pinion. With a 19" bar Id prob run about 4" split or so up to the frame.

I would definately call an 11" short! New IMCA rules are 19" minimum so we made an adjustable frame upright so we could run a short jbar to the right of pinion or a 19" straight to the left side of the pinion.
Thanx
Brett
