I had another mod go up in flames in front of me Sat. night. The driver got out just fine and as far as i know he is ok. They talked to him later in the pits. We also have an in the pits announcer. I didn't catch if he said what he thought caused the fire, but i did catch he said he was running 50% raceing fuel and 50% alcohol mixture in his tank. I have never heard of doing this. Is this something that others do, or was it an accident waiting to happen? I don't know if that had anything to do with him catching fire or not also. Let me tell you what though, it was quite the site to see that happen just all of a sudden right in front of me. The entire car was engulfed, He did a **** of a job getting it stopped to get out.

It won't mix without a blending agent such as benzene. But I don't really see a gain in doing that.

The tracks need to have a better way of putting out a fire seems like. A simple 300 gallon take full of water with a 5 hp pump and 1.5" hose will kill an alky fire fast.

Since i first posted this, i talked to a guy that said what both of you have, they won't mix without a blending agent. He said all the guys he has ever heard of doing this have blown up.
So the lesson learned here is, if your going to play with matches your going to get burned!!!

This brings up alot of safety issues at tracks though. 1) not checking stuff on cars for potential problems.
2) not be able to handle the fire on your own.

we were at a local track, a b mod backed into the backstraight wall, and burst into flames, the car about burnt to the ground before the so called safety crew got it out. the driver got out fast, but still tore up the car and held up the show.

how many tracks do you guys race at with a safety team at them? somepeople that can put out a fire, or actually cut you out of a car without destroying the entire car or taking 6 hours.
i say destroy the entire car, i seen one time they cut aguy out of a street stock, tehy cut the window net, actually took the time to cut it apart. then on top of the bars needed to be moved went ahead and moved some random ones. if the saftey people had a better clue they would have just unhooked the net, and cut the bars needed to get the driver out fast, not waste time cutting stuff up.

i am not saying every track is terrible, but most need alot of work.
one track i do note is lakeside speedway, they seem to have a good saftey team in the works there.

A few years ago it seemed like every other race my car was scattering engines and having oil fires. I remember one in particular (also have it all on tape!!) My engine blew and oil went all over the headers. Of course it blazed up and starting coming in the car with me. I crawled out of the car BY MYSELF! While the track guys just watched. I remember 2 of the track guys had fire extinguishers. They were standing about 6 feet from my car with extinguishers just watching it burn!! I got so mad that I reached in the car and got my extinguisher and put it out myself. Then after about 20 seconds it blazed up again. I looked at the track people and as usual they just stood there! So I put it out again. Then my extinguisher hung and wouldn't shut off. So I threw it out on the track! When I walked by the track guys they gave me this stupid look like what are you doing! I looked at them and said well I knew you worthless *** 's weren't going to put it out! Man I was mad!!

Most track crews are there for the shirt, food and a free trip to the races.Don't expect professionals.
