Ok, we just bought a new trailer today for our mod. It is an 18' with dovetail, ramps and 84" between the fenders. We are going to build a box on the front of it. What is everyone experience with their boxes on their trailers. I mean what do you really like about yours or what do you wish was different about it. What are things i need to be taking into consideration when building/designing it?

We have a roll around tool box that will have the wheels taken off and bolted down inside of it, and tire rack of course. Just looking for ideas? thanks

Are you talking a walkin box or just a small storage kind of box??

We had one I really liked before we got an enclosed. It was a walkin, about 6-7' long by width of the trailer. Bench across the front with cabinets under it, pegboard on all the walls. The box was like 8 or 9' to the top from the ground which made for good viewing platform. If you do a walkin make sure the door can be opened from the inside.... ours didnt and we had a guy find out the hard way one windy day...lol.

I my trailer I have a heavy duty roller tray setup for my tool box to sit on that whay it pulls out the side for access and dont have to bank your head when looking for tools also if you are going to have a winch I would mount it in your cabinet to keep it out of the rain/snow/dirt....

I suggest build it as big as you can. The more spare stuff you can store inside means less work on raceday.

end of last season a friend built a box for the front of his trailer, with a tire rack on top. box was about 4 ft high 2 ft wide, 7 ft wide. he said his fuel milage went for **** after that.
i recomend taking advantage of the extra space that the angled part of the hitch allows. run your box forward as far as you can, angled in to the front, and sloped down to the front to make it more aerodynamic.
i have a walk in on mine with a walk in door on the left and a ramp door on the right. it is 6 ft high, 7 ft wide, and 6 ft to where it starts to taper, it tapers from 7 ft wide to 2 ft wide in 4 ft. and from 6 ft high to 4 ft. total it is 6h, 7w, 10 L. my trailer is 16 ft deck, 10 ft enclosure, 28 ft total.
enclosure includes space for a tire rack and a small pit cart.

Just started using this one and works good. It is on a 20 foot trailer though. Observation deck is great. The rails on top slide up out of the boxes. All of it locks up so traveling is less worrisome in motels.

on ours, we put the tire rack on the trailer bed, then the tool box in an angle iron bracket about 4 foot up, works good, but im also 6'3, the tool box being up high is better cause your not breakin your back to get something

We just built a new box on my dads trailer. I wanna say his trailer is 20ft long. but the box is 6ft. tall but 4ft wide. and inside a bench goin all the way across and misc. trays and hangers to to store stuff. We built the frame out of 1x1 square tubing then then used black sheet medal and a tire rack that extends out over the car. with the box fully loaded with spares if it starts raining u can stand 4-5 ppl easily in it to get out of the rain. The only problem with it being so tall hope your truck has a topper to the air and will go over the top of the box cause havin it real tall make a wind break and hard pulling. If u need more info let me know i can draw up a picture of the trailer for ya
