Anyone have a gear recommendation for Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, KS ? USMTS mod with solid 360 motor, needs to turn 8000 rpm. I've never been there, but info says 3/8 medium banked track.
Thanks for any info.

I will try to help you out. When I am not racing,I help out a grand national car that races there weekly and is a front runner (4j). 2900 lb car with the same tires as a modified turns 7500 with a 5.83 and a 358 cu. inch 500 two barrel motor
So I would say for your modified a 5.43 or 5.67 would be close. Make your best jugdement with the info I give you.
I have a late model and when I run there I use a 6.39 rear gear with a 92" right rear tire. I turn 8500 rpm's.
There is a way to calculate that out but I can't remember how.
Couple more notes on Thunderhill Speedway.
It is a wide race track with plenty of room.
I wouldn't call it a medium banked track.
With 20 to 25 degree banking. It is banked!Back straightaway is banked and kind of D-shaped if you get out wide off of 2. Off of turn 4 it flattens out on the front straightaway.
A big note if it hasn't rained a lot and and for a while it will be dry slick real quick.
It will normally take rubber too. Not unusual to see it black and real smooth.
But I did hear for practice that it was rough and had ruts. Probably not a lot of track prep for practice.
When the track is dry slick most of the cars hug the bottom in the corners. It is like a train, everyone in line.
The really fast guys can make the top and middle work too when it is like this.
Multi-lane race track. You are almost in the turns more than you are on the straights.
You will like this race track!
