hey guys, i am new to this dirt thing i raced an imca modified on asphalt and they cancelled the class this year at my local track. One of my buddies races dirt late models on the west coast and told me just to put bird cages and swing arms with a top link going back on the right and left rears. how does this setup usually handle, and will i be able to get enough forward bite with it? thanks

That should work. Add a short panhard bar from the left side of the chassis and probably raise the ride height. Do you have any dirt cars locally that you could take some measurements from?

If you want to turn it into a floated z link style swing arm, then get some birdcages, i am partial to all bsb stuff, www.bsb-mfg.com they are super high quality.
as far as bar lengths, I would put 20 inch bars heading back with 0-15 deg adjustment on the rr and 2-20 deg adjustment on lr, that is downhill to back.
start out with the lr about 15 down to back, and the rr about 10 down to back.
as the track slicks over go 20 lr and 5 rr.
also for springs go 250 on the rear, then go 275 lr and 225 on rr on slick.
pm me for more swing arm info.
also a swing arm has as much potential as a 4 link does, many top touring late models are swing arm cars.
pm me for more info.

if you can 15 left and 5 right, that is uphill to front on the front lowers.
another idea is to shorten the lr lower(forward bar) to a short swing arm, like 14.5 inches. build a plug for it.
that will make the car rearsteer a little and load the lr faster.

a plug is justa bracket that bolts in your trailing arm mounts, or frame near there, adn relocates the trailing mounts in a new postion, but can be removed to run the tubes in the original postion.
the brackets to make one can be purchased at aa-mfg they are in most circle track mags and have a TON of brackets, its my FAVORITE book of parts.
mod 70 had a good pic of his, maybe he can post that for us on here, he had it a few months backon here.
MOD 70 WHERE ARE YOU??
