Heard a rumour that mirrors are going to be allowed in all IMCA classes. Anybody else hear this?

the rules are already out...
no mirrors and you don't need them, you don't have time to look in them

I don't care what the rule is. The only thing I wonder is how safe it is barrelling into a corner with a hans on and no mirror. Kind of like a race horse wearing blinders with no jockey. Or driving home in rush hour traffic with no side to side head movement or mirror. Just my thoughts, but like I said I don't care.

If your looking backwards your going backwards. Mirrors are only used for blocking.

Personally I'd rather see radios and spotters allowed before mirrors. At the very least I would like to see an in car warning light system that is activated by race control. Too many times I have been or seen others just past the track caution light when it comes on and not known of up comming trouble.

Like I said, I'll drive with or without it does not matter. But for sake of chinwag I'll tell a story. Our track last year switched to IMCA Stock Car rules and the first race out a guy comeout of the corner and another car was outside of him and he went up to the wall not knowing someone had his rear quarter and ch-ching you had 2 badly wrecked cars with one needing a new clip. I agree that no mirrors get rid of blocking. I have also seen numerous race finishes ruined by an unsuspecting lapped car. There is definately 2 sides to the mirror issue.

Barney, I know what your saying but at the same time I have been the one on the outside, at a point you have to decide whether to let that car put you in the wall or use the brake a little, sooner or later the rough driving will catch up with someone and they will put themselves into the wall or someone will aid them.

mirrors will just cause pile ups, enough guys try to block and cause them already, why add to that. most drivers have enough trouble trying to keep up with whats going on in front of him, let alone behind.

Go Asphalt racing, those guys can't seem to race with out mirrors. The IMCA rules for asphalt tracks say you can run a mirror.
Same thing for radio's people are always telling me they only need radios for "saftey issues" ,then when they wreck it was the "spotters" fault

I say leave it the way it is.I tried to race a guy that had a mirror in his car a few years ago.It was for the lead in a feature, for 15 laps strait I went litterly from the infeild to near off the track trying to find a way around and he followed. Most of the time nearly ripping my fenders off,I believe very stronly about racing clean, espeacilly when it for the lead,I would be very mad to get knocked out of a win,so I in turn wore my brakes out that race,If someone else would have been behind him he would have been turn in the wall head on many times on a big, fast 3/8 track.

Point being,Mirrors will only tear up equipment, and get drivers hurt.

I couldn't help but comment on this.........if you read it for the first time, like I did today, you'd swear it was a debate on gun control. You guys against mirrors are blaming the mirror for the driver's bad habits. One thing I can tell you, if a guy blocked me and he had a mirror, how could he use any excuses? Blocking is not clean racing, with a mirror or not. Don't blame the mirror because the driver is an idiot.

When I raced Supertrucks on the ashphalt my own rule was after the second block you are free game to be relocated.

Blind Barney,
You are a study in hypocrisy, one post you are telling of us of the "added safety" of mirrors, then the next post how you "relocated" people who "blocked you"
I don't know how they race in super trucks, but in dirt modifieds it is your job to pass me clean, not my job to move over for you

I ran mirrors years ago in a late model and they were eventually outlawed. Good thing (except in road racing, that is, where you need mirrors to keep from getting run over by a faster car in another class). Since then, one of my driving rules is that if I can't see any part of your car along side of mind, you're not there. If I see a bumber or tire, then I'll leave you some room. Otherwise, you're not there. Most good racers seem to follow that unwriten rule and will back out if they see you coming down. And if I come down on you and you're not there, it's not my fault if I hit you or cut you off. Just common sense.

I was talking of the guys that look in the mirror and then block. If they are continuosly blocking via the mirror then you rough em up is what I am saying. clear, clear? That's kind of what they were talking about is the guys using the mirror to block, wasn't it.

You give them mirrors and most will attempt to block,Then if you start 'relocating' then you have MORE torn up equipment,MORE accidents. I was amazed by the guy infront of me becouse he was still fast, and mostly driving behind him.

I look at as the same way desertmod. If the guy in front of you is ruuning his race, running his line and not all over the place then a clean pass is eady to accomplish.

I have to agree with zeroracing, most have problems keeping ahead of whats going infront of them.
