WE are considering putting brackets on the left side of car that now has a short arm on it.Do any of you have any measurements on how much room we need to have between the tire and the back of the roll cage.
It looks like we don't have enough room for any forward movement. Thanks

our mod had the same prob, not enough room for a 4bar on left as they had moved the cage over and back. we had brackets on the rearend and locked it solid through anotehr tab welded on the birdcage. we left everything else on the swingarm setup the same, other than locking that left side and taking off that top arm. it acted then like a 3link or 4bar with the downward and forward drive but just didnt go as far as a regular 4 bar would. made a big difference. I know thats not the answer your looking for but if you cant get the room for the 4bar then its an alternative.

36racer,
you are right, its not the answer i wanted to hear!!

It seems as though you think the change made the car better? Is this only a change that we might try on a mid summer dryslick track? thank you

you could change it anytime. the biggest help to the car was noticed on dryslick, however we felt it was an all around help with much more traction and sidebite on tacky and wet too. something else we changed that i failed to mention was putting a short straight bar on the left side of pinion rather than running the j-bar over the pinion to right side. It helped it get start traction and driving the rear down and forward much faster and earlier and really hiked the car up. we used about 3 inches of height difference from the chassis side of bar to pinion. any more than that we kind of went backwards. We usually started towards the tail of the feature or around the 15th place area and usually came forward some or at least didnt go backwards. just not alot of passing way back there and a long way to go however there was a big difference and id recommend trying it. as i said in earlier post we didnt change anything else on the set ups either. We sold that car this year and bought a hoffman 4bar z link car but am still helping the guy who bought it a little so we can still tinker with the set ups some.
