Have any of you guys ran the lightened rear gears? I was thinking about buying some, but was worried about the strength of them and if it really made that much of a difference. It says they are 2.6 lbs lighter and I know thats alot when you consider its rotating weight.

Also I seen the lightened flexplates. I wondered if I could just lighten the factory one I have, by cutting out some material. I know that with the 7.25 triple disc clutch that I run, all the flexplate does is give a place for the stater to engage. But I was worried that the factory flexplate might come apart under high RPM's??

Any ideas or thoughts guys????

I wouldn't mess around with trimming one yourself.....could be ugly.... on the other hand I haven't heard much about the light flexplates. Although I wouldn't be afraid to try one.

the lightened ring gears are okay, although you'll never notice any gain from the driver's seat unless you've lightened everything possible.

stay away from the lightened flexplates like speedway sells and don't try to lighten one yourself. without a torque convertor to keep them stiff, they wobble all over the place when the engine is lugging and during sudden rpm changes. your best bet is to use an SFI approved flexplate. it's heavier but sometimes you have to give up something in the interest of durability.

I used on eof them lightend flywheels from speedway, lasted about a year untill it broke, wich took out the transmission and starter.

My buddy ran the same one and it broke, and cut threw his header, they are lighter but I wouldnt run one again.

Thanks guys, thats what I needed to hear. I will definatley NOT buy a lightened flexplate!! I guess I'll stay away for the gears also, b/c I can't go through lightening everything else at this time.

I appreciate it everyone!

The gears woudl be fine. I wouldnt start buying new gears just to save 2# ea but if you are buying new ones anyway then id look at the liteweight option. You can have standard gears ground down to lighten them as well. Spedway offers this for 75$ but they have to be new gears.
