I'm trying to figure out what brand and type of differential this is. Came out of a 9 in. ford housing. I was told when I bought the car the rearend was a gold trac. This doesn't look like any gold trac pictures i've seen. The only markings are the "28 HT" shown in the 3rd picture and I do have 28 spline axles. I'm guessing this is a detroit locker. Ideas?

That is a gold trac for a 9 in. The 28ht is 28 spline half tight.The half tight is the tension adjustment rating they use and is the common one used for a modified.We ran exactly that set up on pavement in 95 and 96.Worked great but the unit is heavy as it is a big huink of billet steel it is made out of.Make sure you run the RED Line "heavy duty shock proof" synthetic gear oil or it will make terrible noises when you push the car through the pits and it will wear out of adjustment faster.

hey drdirt, i see you are from my neck of the woods, altamont, close to san jose CA. Did you find with this unit that you could run zero rear tire stagger. Are you the j, d, or k?
