Anybody have any advice on driving for a rookie mod. driver? I'm hoping to get some pointers on driving style.

Thanks!

The advice I got the first time at the track from an old timer was "hold it wide open until you see Jesus, then turn left"
Gotta love the old timers.

Ohh how I remember those first laps in a modified. My biggest problem was learning that you had to "set" the car upon corner entry. You can't just "sprint car" the thing through the corner.

Just remember to hold your line, stay out of the way of the faster cars. And don't drive over your head.

Thanks for the advice. What do you mean by "set" the car? The majority of my experience is in a factory stock car. What are the majro differences?

the diference is nite and day!!
I learned this year that the days of letting my racecar turn into the corner were long gone!!

What I have learned this year, besides the fact that you need to have a good chassis to start with,is that these cars will handle better than any factory or street stock, but you have to get the into the corner right. In my factory I would drive in really deep, use some brakes and be competely off the gas for a couple of seconds. In the mod I dont drive in as deep(took me all year to figure that out) and do my best to stay in the gas(not getting completely off the gas) of I did get all the way out,I woud feather out,not just let out,I seemed to feel to me that the car didnt snap around.

How much braking is involved?

I use the brake in every corner, mainly on entry.

But Im still learning how to drive these cars, and my car this year wasnt right,it was a homebuilt deal frome the early 90's and only got it to handle on the last nite I ran it.
