Skyrockets are in Iowa, no website that I know of yet.

Why dont you want a DW9?

Not a bad apple, a lot of guys are having problems with their dw9's.

WE have a dw9 with the 4z rear and it is working well for us now. WE had to make some changes to the rear springs especially the z link side but the driver said he has never had a car hook up this hard.

Did you have the standard 9 or did you try a setback cage, was it 2 or 4 link?

Dirtbuster,

Which do you recommend? I have heard that the DW9's with the cage set back are pretty rough to get to handle. But the standard dw9 is just an updated 8 is that correct?

our track told us that anybody with a dw needs to add gussets or braces to the lf hoop. one car flipped and crushed it and the tech man claims that other tracks have called with similar problems. i was not sure what year they were talking about.

I would staty away from the setback cars. I think that is why the 9's got a bad start. I am not sure you can even get an 8 anymore. I thought the last time i was there in march they said they werent taking orders for them or were going to stop shortly.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the 8's and really the 9 isnt that much different. A few of the bars are bent differently around the cage and the front suspension has been changed a little but that could be applied to an 8 as well. If you get the 4z car i feel like the RR setup needs some work and rearranging to really make it work though.

Just this past weekend i heard something about the cage bending. Looking into it a little more so i cant really say anything about it yet.

Now that I know what it takes to make this 9 work I like it but it should have been setup this way from the factory. I would prob think heavily about a skyrocket because of the support kelly gives (he even helped us on this DW car) and i feel its set up better from the factory, the problem is he only makes about 20-30 cars a year and can be hard to get.

Bob Pierce car's are hot around here, seem to winning alot this year. As well as a Cyclone, made in Indiana somewhere. Both are 4link-zlink, spring on housing right rear. I would look into either of those.

Never seen a Skyrocket run, but would imagine its very similar to a Pierce or a Cyclone. All the Mod's seem to be gravitating to the same suspension theory.

money21,
Did you run the rear susp the way DW had it set up. Did you run 4 link on your dw8 or was the dw9 your first.
When you went to 2 link what did you do with the springs.

We went thru the same thing earlier this year. One week the car seemed to work and the next week or a different track and it wouldnt. But i think we have the bugs out of it now. Not saying you should buy one but they can be made to work. Just seems like DW gave up on them wehn they should have put a little more into it and had a good car, and therfore there isnt a lot of help from them. They were real close to what pierce and shyrock have but not quite there. WE have patterned our car more after shyrocks and moved some stuff around and made a huge difference.

shaw late models are great and mods are fast but i dont feel they will last very long. the cars are not very strong on the rear, a few good hits from the back and its toast, i know you want the cars to have a crush zone but i feel it is too much crush and the car will not take many hits. also i think they are also made too flex some, which makes them easier to set up and more forgiving but not last as long.
dont get me wrong i think a shaw is a great late model and a greatmod, just wont last too long if you run hard. also i think a skyrocket is a better car.

Thats kind of the way i felt about the skyrocket vs dw cars last year. There was one at our track and it seemed like he was doing a lot of straightening on it. I still think they are great cars and would consider it one of my next choices though. I think the newer skyrockets are even lighter but if you know that going in it might not be a bad deal.

Also heard bloomquist and some of the other big names at the 100,000 race rented the track out for a couple days and practiced nonstop. Its gonna be tough to beat a guy like that no matter what car he is in if he can afford to do that. I'd look more at what the average racer has done with a chassis.

Not to forget that one of the Shaws holds
a driving school at that track. They teach there once a month I think.
All things considered, I would sure hope a shaw won that race, or they look real bad.

Not to disagree with another's assessment of shaw cars, but Wayne Brooks has run the same shaw 4-bar car for many years and it is still bad fast. I know guys who have them, and they say the cars have a ton of forward bite.
Kevin Shaw is great for helping answer questions, as is Wayne. Very nice people, and the car looks to be a very well built, over-rail, DOM seamless chassis. I'd really think about one of their cars if they weren't so far away from me! Just my 2 cents...

The 2004 skyrockets are tougher than the 03 cars. They put some extra bracing in the tail & heavier wall tubing in other places. We have bent the front horns a couple times 5 minutes with a porta power & it's right back.Thats all we have ever bent on the 03 or 04 car.The horns are made to give so the damage doesn't go thru the chassis any further.

Bought a Bob Pierce 2004 muti link, but have ran the 4bar zlink most of the year and only changed a couple of shocks from his set up and have been fast every week and love it.
Bob will talk to you or Denny S. any time you call the shop, and we picked the car up from Brent Rhebergen in NY and he has more than went out if his way to answer any ?'s.
Even gave me his home #.
These guys are supper nice and the car is strong, replaced front and rear bumpers 3 times now and it's just the bumper thats bending.
bobpierceracecars.com look for how is the closes dealer, you will be happy.
