OK ,this seems to be a huge grey aerea in the UMP rules.....I am not sure what slight siping is ,would someone please explain how wide a sipe is....smaller than any blade in a grooving iron I assume.....I am trying to extend the life of my remaining tires and need to know how much I can get away with ,or what method to use for siping .Also Is it realy worth spending the time doing it?....I have been grinding tires with 16 grit and I thinc I can tell a difference for a few laps.....Please respond and give me some advice on this thanks !

What I used to do was take a regulear grooving blade, turn it upside down and break one of the ends off. Install it upside down in the grooving iron, now you have a siping tool. Makes a real nice sipe. (Sharp end towards the front)
I've never done this to any mod shoes before, but always wondered if it would work. Supposed to make the tire surface more flexible, dissipate heat, give you more biting edges (to a lesser degree than grooving). I know them A's can get rock hard, so grinding is definite. I'd try grinding and sipe the outside edges to see if there was any noticeable improvement in the tire. Hope this helps.

take an old groover blade and flip it over, then cut off one side so you only make one at a time. a sipe at speed will spread open and work like a groove and at slow laps will cause more friction and heat.
do it in a criss cross. and do it alot.

we cut ours across, diaganally and around the treads too(up and down all around the tire). never had trouble with getting them looked at. Ive noticed a big difference in them working so much better as the heat gets in them so much faster.
