Ha-ha-ha-ha..... For a second there, I thought you took a picture of my older mod that my buddy is driving getting knocked. That is typical of what has happened 2 out of the last 3 times out with the car. Had to "completely" rebuild the left front suspension and replace rims and tires both times. The excuse the drive gave was that it was just racing and that it was only his 6th time out. I thought my buddy was going to kill him. ha-ha-ha-ha..... The driver was quickly asked to how you can call it racing when you get so high up on a car that you put creases in the bodywork between the decking and roof (front and back).

Looks like the yellow car is pulling a wheelie, Good forward bite LOL. I love the explination, what a joke. Your driver did right by showing restrant but its very hard to sometimes. thats why I hate new drivers coming into mods or another higher class with no experience. Stupid people shouldn't breed

I jumped into a modified with no experience and have not done to bad. Have not hit anyone or been hit by anyone in the 10 or so races i've been in. Actually I have had decent finishes just riding around behind the experienced guys and watching them take each other out. But I probably should have started out in a lower class but then again I'm not carrying any bad habbits over from a lower class either.

2x is right, I started in a mod and was patient about learning to drive. I got caught up in other people's problems several times, but was not the cause of any until well into my rookie season. It just depends on the driver, and the person teaching the driver. I had a good veteran helping me.

i am a firm believer in starting at a lower class, too many cars get torn up because somebody starts in a upper level class.

We had 4 drivers in our mod class this year that had never driven anything before. 2 of them have no business in any kind of a race car, & the other 2 are fast, but totally out of control. They have torn up alot of cars this season. We would be in contention for a championship if it weren't for these track hazards. We have another KID starting in a couple of weeks when he turns 16 & he has never driven anything either. I agree with zero that a mod is not an entry level class. Granted, there are some good first time drivers out there & I congratulate each of them on their success, but they are few & far between. JMHO

I have seen some beople here in Florida that start in LM's. The track we use has required some of them to make several laps and they will put plastic barrels on the track in the corners and on the straights and tell them to go under or above them and see if they can.

OK since it's my first year in a mod I'm throwing my 2 cents in here. I'm one of those who pitted for others, either built or helped build cars from the ground (jig) up, went to countless dirt & asphalt races. Welded bent & or broken iron on others cars that "seasoned" racers bent in the heat of the battle. Paid my dues drag racing, building my own cars, engines, trannies, rearends. I even paint my own cars. Last fall I did something I've been wanting to do for a long time & bought a Mod. Stipped it down to a bare chassis, built a engine, built 80% of the body (Found a year 1887 8 ft brake for 100 bones)The first 6 races I didn't draw I just lined up in the back and took notes. And for my rookie year I'm proud to say that we've done well, not stellar,(best finish 3rd in my heat) but we haven't taken anybody out or caused any brake checking pile ups. Our equipment has stayed together with the exception of last sat. nites broken input shaft in the main. The main thing is we've had fun & I've earned (so far) the respect of the other drivers. Cause I plan on being here for a long time!

Hey Klw45black, I commend you on the efforts and agree totally with the respect issue. I too have been around the racing scene from working in road race teams and circle track teams, driving karts nationally, and drove street stock for a few years before moving into mods. Built many and repaired many chassis from people having brain farts behind the wheel. Ran "my" car and competed for the first time this past weekend and brought the thing home without a scratch after my first night. Just about made the A-main from the B-main (running second) until the car loosened up and drifted on me brushing the wall. I'll chalk it to driver experience, but had a blast. The key was not to do something I knew I could not pull off with the car and risk damage to everyone around me. Heck, I fund my own operation (2-cars) and we all know how "cheap" it is to compete in this sport. ha-ha-ha-ha...yeah, right.

Just so people realize after i bought the mod i spent most of the firt season running the car at practice sessions and didnt start racing with the others until i felt comfortable in the car. When i did start racing i also started at the rear and when there was a caution i drop back to the rear as a matter of fact i gave up what would have been my best finish to drop back (5th). The last race was a 30 lap feature and it took an unreal 1 hour and 15 minutes to run because of all the caution. 22 started 13 finished. I was one of them with no damage and had the least exprience of the field. So I feel that if you take your time and dont rush it you can start in a mod.

I had ran factory/street stocks for the last 4 years,Im 21 now,started when I was 17(I think),I have ran 8 mod races this year and parked it for the year to get in a better car next year,and I tagged on the back for most of the races and I think a mod isnt a good place to start for a guy that hasnt never drivin anything.Im not saying it cant be done,but with a driver that says 'it cant be that hard' it can be very wild in any car.we have a limited mod class,and its a good class,working torque conveters and the motors i think dont have as much power as the factory stocks so they are a good class.

I havnt coused a wreck this year,but it was a huge jump for me.These cars made me think a few times 'man,maybe i cant drive these things,i should build another fat-car'

Gonna toss in my few cents, I also am a rookie first year racing anything. It is a B-Mod, but the end results are the same...$$$. The photo at top could be me and the moron that ran me over a few weeks ago. I started the season not drawing for the first three weeks. Ran around the back and learned about my car. I have only gotten into one guy, totally my fault, all year, and I went to him and fessed up.

I have to say, before I got the motor rebuilt we were not too fast, but competitive from 10th back. My car looked great until I got fast enough to run with the so called veterans. July I finished 2 features all month because of garbage like in the picture. I try like heck to respect everyone I race against and will lift when necessary. Two top fives as a rookie and always make the features in fields of around 30 cars. LEAVE MY POOR CAR ALONE! Finished 5th last week, but worked on it 6hrs Sunday 3hrs every night this week and who knows how long tonite to be ready for tomorrow. The car looked like it came out of a demo-derby.

O.K. done whining now.

Sometimes things just happen, but most of the boneheaded moves like the one shown above come from 4 things Too much ego, (no offense intended Ego racing) Too much money Too little brainpower to filter incoming data & I agree Too little experiance. But like rook78 said sometimes you're just mindin' your own business when things just happen.. I think everyone that's in this sport has had their backside handed to them by a "seasoned" driver either on the track or in the pits when you messed up thems the stripes I guess.

I too am a rookie and have some thought's and opinions. First, bonehead moves come from drivers who race each other instead of the track. Two, drivers thinking they can win (there are exception though) against a veteran of a million years. Three, very little respect of the weight, power, and speed of today's mods.

Driving sideways through a rain slick parking or donuts through freshly falling snow doesn’t count for nothing. The cars aren't the same and the speed as which control is negotiable and sometimes a mere suggestion.

I've got two races under my belt and haven't had this much fun running at the back in all my life. Last week was my hardest hit I've ever experienced. I got to say it wasn't my fault, I was holding my line when a new driver pushed through the corner and hit me in the driver door shoving me in to the wall and spinning me round to the left. Even though it wadded up my car, I left him some respect until he spun me round on the 2 caution laps preceding the incident.

Racing is exciting and tempers flair but you got to keep you cool and THINK about what's happening around you. I don't have dad who raced then taught me, nor did I have a experience in the pit's helping other's, or many of the other luxuries some guy's get. What I have is a level head, common sense and a desire to develop and maximize my abilities as a driver and respected competitor.

One thing that set's a rookie apart from bonehead drivers is knowing when you can race your race and knowing when to let them by. I already have the respect or fellow drivers simply from conversation. I ask a lot of questions and do what I can to pay back those who have graced my ignorance with respect and grandeur.

In the end, passing someone on the inside is just as important to us all as being passed on the expertise and knowledge of those who give us the chance to learn. For without rookie's, the sport wouldn't last long.

You have it right...This is our first year in the mods...Driver has been track champ or runner up in a pro-stock for 5 years and decided to move up a class. We have been having trouble with set-up for the first half and running near the back...Have had the car wadded up by others most every week( See luck string)Finally found the set up the car likes and ran up front the last few weeks..It's amazing how much better the talent is up front( I guess thats why they are up there)
