Hey everyone I just wanted to know what kind of transmission do most of you run. We are running a 2 speed powerglide. We are having a problem of it burning up. We are considering going to a standard trans. Any suggestions. Thanks.

You can either buy a bert/brinn/falcon now, or buy one later. Be smart and get out of the powerglides now, you'll be money ahead in the long run.

We just put a three speed in ours this week. **** the powerglide. I will talk to my sponsors and my partner and you may have a sell on your hands there. Where are you? I need to know if I could come and get it or what it would cost me to ship. You can email me at LittleJohn0104@msn.com

4 glides in 6 races, went to a falcon and it is much better although a real pain in the *** on restarts. by the way i didnt have a problem with glides until we went to ump style motors with hoosiers on a rough tacky track.

How long do the clutches last on the aftermarket trannys? I see alot of those guys getting pushed back into their pit stalls every time with the idea of saving the clutch- is that really necessary? How many shows between maintenance and clutch replacement? I'm planning on going to one over the winter, I'm just wondering what to expect. Thanks, DGB

I've heard guys go 2 or 3 years before replacing the clutches in one. I've got about a full season on mine now and the clutch is working fine.

The glide is very very reliable! Check your driveshaft length!!!! Drive shaft length is the #1 cause of damage to a powerglide! Make sure the input is the correct length if it's an 1/8 inch too long it will knock the pump out every time!

I picked up a used older nonsycro 3 speed (1955 to '64) from a retired racer. was actually buying the tilton set up and he gave me the trans!! It's got a powerglide tailshaft housing on it, not sure how this was done yet, anyone know?? I used a morse cable to run clutch. This winter I'll put it on the bench & go through it, but it works great right now. Seen too many glides busted & to build'em tough takes some coins.

N jantz, I can't explain your 6 busted cases except for bad luck? I ran with a guy from here in Missouri that has ran every modified show in the country for many years and never broke 6 of them. Oh and by the way ever herd of Rex Merrit? Walker Missouri? DirtWorks? Just wondering. I guess everyone is different but like alot of people have said Brinn and Bert are very good trannies. I would pick either of them.

6 busted cases = wrong drive shaft length I am with Mr.Kwik Drive shaft problem will kill the glide every time if it don't break the case it will cause other problems all the way to twisted input shaft all cause of the drive shaft moveing to far into the trans or pulling out of the bushing or even part way out of the bushing. I do think a standard trans or bert\brinn or the others will take more abuse but I bet if you have a drive shaft issue with them they will lay down on you to. So fix the drive shaft problem and buy two glides or 1 bert \brinn. just an opinion!

that's not it either, I had the same driveshaft in one powerglide that probably lasted 50 races before an engine exploded and took the trans with it.

I have seen lots of them crack because the driveshaft was just ever so out of balance. It doesnt take much.
