On vacation went to see some racing in western PA. While there saw the E-Mods which are the same as IMCA/UMP cars, that I run.

A lot of the tracks here are now running a Amercian Racer Tire that is not the IMCA tire.

It has 3 compounds soft, med., hard and different tread pattern that the IMCA. The tire seemed as soft as the D-40 and or A-40 and simular in size.

The tracks dont allow the soft. 2 years ago when I was up here all the cars ran the hoosier UMP tire.

I asked several racers why the tracks had made the switch. Almost all of them said that they were tired of UMP tires horrible side wall and poor quality tire. Plus they are able to buy the American Racer tire for $85 each.

having run the UMP Hoosier for years now it would be excellent if UMP and others would take a look at this American Racer tire.

The price is better and according to the racers I talked to so is the quality.

Have others out there seen this tire ?

You nailed it. I run UMP and IMCA tracks. I travel to probably the tracks you mentioned in Western PA. The American racer tire is best of both worlds. Softer patch area like UMP tires but stiffer side walls like G-60 tires. I have a set of them and will run them when ever there is a open show.

i say goodyear should come out with a new tire that is better than the american racer, and only one compound.
they should get in the game, maybe a tire war could lower some cost.

Goodyear makes only one type of tread for dirt and only one true racing compound (375) which durometers around 55.great tires, stiff sidewalls, decent tread pattern. but this is their only circle track tire.
I agree Zero, goodyear needs to focus on some new tires for the "grass roots" racer.
I was paying $85 for the goodyears, if you buy 50+ a year they only cost $69 each. I can handle that price.
maybe find 8-10 guys that are running the same tire, then all pitch in, place one order at the same time, then each of you buy 5-6 tires and only pay $480 rather than $600, just a thought.

In the UMP game something needs to be dont the Hoosier UMP tire is priced TOO high with the WORST sidewall in the history of racing tires, trying to mount them can also be dangerous grease helps, but this should not be the case for $100 tire.
BRing on others please !!

Well...After talking to a fellow racer in Indiana I have fairly certain as to why we have no chance in UMP of ever running anything but a Hoosier tire.

From what I have been told it would appear that one of the board members of UMP worked for hoosier for 18 years so dont look for a change anytime soon.

Maybe Hoosier can make a better tire.
