We have been thinking of switching to nitrogen from air in our tires. Has anyone else tried this? We are having problems with the tires fading bad at the end of the feature, and know a few guys that run nitrogen to keep from getting increased air pressure. Anything to help out with the Hockey puck tires we have to run. Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

We use Nitrogen in our tires, I can tell you this, our tires would grow 4-6 pounds after 20 laps with regular compressor air. When the same tire is filled with Nitrogen it will only grow 1-2 pounds after 20 laps, but it is alot more predictable. I know that that tire will always grow 1-2 pounds so I will set it 1-2 pounds less at the start of race.
One more thing that I like about the Nitrogen, we installed the bottle in the trailer and use it for the air tools as well, all you need is a purging regulator that will go up to 150psi. then set it at 100psi for your air tools. It works great for the impact, twice as fast as an electric or cordless impact, and you don't have to listen to that noisy generator or air compressor.
Hope this helps
by the way after the initial cost of the Nitrogen bottle, it only costs $14 to refill. one bottle will last 12-14 races
I got a local welding supply house to sponsor the bottle to me, you should do the same.

13 Mod,
All DRY gasses will increase the same amount with an increase in temperature (pv=nrt for all you chemistry and physics majors) the key word is dry (no water ie.humidity)People use nitrogen because it is easy and cheap to get dry nitrogen as 66 said $14 refill. If you could insure the air from your air compressor is dry then the air would act just like nitrogen.
curt clegg
p.s. sorry for the lesson i'm a teacher on summer break
