Wondering what people are running with the mandrel for kse to drive there waterpump? I have the 3" lower pully for driveing my water pump off the mandrel but could only find a water pump pully that was over 6" in dia wich give me over a 60 % reduction....wich is way to much. I have tried both types of cog belts the gilmer and the hdt and broke them both at high rpm. I have had no problem with the groove type belts just dont like the reduction that it has...i have to keep the rpm way up to keep the temp down.. If anyone knows were i could find a bigger lower pelly for the mandrel that would be great. Thanks. Craig Moore

I was told that and HTD belt could handle the torque of pulling a fan, but I never tried it. We took a regular v-belt pulley and machined the center of it out to fit over the mandrel. You also have to machine the back to fit over the flange on the mandrel. It works great. If you don't have a buddy with a lathe it shouldn't cost much at a machine shop. It's a really simple job.

I do have a lathe and was thinking about doing that i was just worried about making sure it was center. I called peterson and found that they make a 2 groove pully for the mandrel that will drive at allmost 1 to 1....but they are very proud of it. Also talking with them they said no cog belt will hold a steel fan at 8000 rpm and if it does you got real lucky...
