vWe are new to the mods this year we are going to run b-mods with 9:1 comp flat top motor nothin fancy we have a stock 3 speed with a 11" clutch also stock.

Now our motor is out of a 79 1/2 ton chevy truck. ALL stock we just put a set of matching solid cam lifters and pushrods in it.

Our only track that we run is a 5/16th's mile track with slight banking our rear set up is multileaf rear no shocks on back of rearend yet what would be a great gear for this track i have 5.14's but was told that will not work. HELP SOMETHINGS GO TO WORK!!!

Drive train is stock do have a floater 9 inch in it we also have 31 and 28 plines axles so we are adaptable.

I dont know why the 5.14 gear wont work . We run a lot of 1/4 mile tracks with a 5.43 gear and turn 6800-7200 rpm. Your going to run a bit larger track ,with the 5.14 you should be around 6500rpm about the limit with a stock sbc.

I would start with a 6.00 or 6.20. The limiteds gearing is fairly close to what a stockcar would run.

I an thinking that you have a 2 barrel and a stock cast iron intake. If not then it would be geared taller.

I run a 5.67 on 3/8 tracks in an open mod (A). I'd tend to think that a 6.0 would be screaming on a larger track. I hit 7000 - 7200 on a track with a good straight. I realize that the 2 barrel will take a little longer to get there, but 6.0 seems a little short.

Ya know, I just got to thinkin' about it, 5/16 is smaller than 3/8. Brain fart! 6.0 would be OK, if not smaller. (slap, slap, wake up!)

i run 5.29 on a long 3/8 really comes out as a 4/10 and turn around 6400.
on a short 3/8 actually about 1/3 i use a 5.83 and turn about the same in rpm.
the key is to control your wheelspin.
