This is my first year with a Bert tranny , And have a stupid question , Like on the slow laps under caution the thing makes some really bad noises but quiets right down when you are picking up the pace for a restart and at racing speed . Is this normal ? The trans is on its fourth year .

It is normal, the noise you hear is the main gears. They make that noise as there is about 1/4inch of play between the gears. And as you go around the track in high range at a low speed they just slap back and forth.

Good to hear ! Changed the fluid today after two nights of racing and it was still good with very little debris . Thanks for the info .

Also, I believe the gears are straight cut not angle cut, it makes them grind a little when you shift into high too, nothing to worry about though. Look around, many places offer an affordable rebuild that will put your mind at ease.

most of the noise that you will be able to hear is from the coupling inside the gearbox that locks up the main drive shaft. This is also what you'll most likely hear grinding if you miss shift into top (direct drive) gear. The coupling is a 3 spigot "spider" or "dog" type coupling.
