Most Ford nine inch housing tubes arent a consistant od on the tubes and i dont think a birdcage will rotate free wihtout bind, would have to go to new 3" tubes with stock flanges if you cant run a floater.

I've done this before, take your birdcages to a bandsaw and cut them directly in half, then weld tabs on the sides and bolt them together, if you end up too tight, then just add shims between the tabs. it worked for me and I was using a housing from an early 60's old Galaxie.

If you are going to cut your cages weld the flanges on first then cut them on a band saw this was they will line up correctly.
