We are running a 4 left Z right with a short bar, the track we run is a 1\4 mile high bank that gets extremely rough at times. We'd like to try a long bar, any suggestions as what angle to set for start?
Also the car has a torque arm that is mounted in a way that interferes with the idea of running a J bar, any of you run into this and have an idea of what to use for a mount on the rear end. If we notch out the area that hits the torque arm we would have only the two top holes left.

anybody, help? thought the long bar would be a no brainer for most of you....

I saw something on one of the other posts about running the jbar upside down if there was a clearance problem. Sounds reasonable to me....my long bar only has 2-3" of rake in it.

If you had the abiltiy to switch from a short bar to a long bar easily, that would be the way to go. The short and J-bar are pretty similar in that they are not the best for rough tracks.

The starting point for a long bar would be center line of the axle on the housing and maybe 2 inches higher on the frame. This is a good place to start.

The rougher the track, the flatter the bar. You also might want to raise the bar on the housing if flattening the bar makes it too low over all. If the car rolls too hard in the ruts, angle and being too low will cause it to dig in. I made that mistake last week and put a brand new car on it's lid ;( I knew driving home what my mistake was.
