What is the norm for sponsors on a mod? I mainly mean the cash sponsors. So much for the hood and less for the sail panels and so on? What is usually given or asked for?

From where I'm from, you ask very little & get even less. My best sponsor is my wife.

I always related sponsorship costs to my expenses. Sometimes that helps relate it better to the sponsor. $20 pit passes x 20 shows means you need one $400 sponsor for that. Fuel cost X dollars per night x 20 race nights. So forth and so on.

Good luck,
Superdave

goodway to look at it superdave, just don't under sell your self. Often I see guys take very little money and it cost that much just to put the name on the car. So what did it do?

our smallest sponsorship we get is $250. our largest is $2000. needles to say he gets both sides and the smallest one gets a sail panel or roof spot. i have a buddy who got good money from a sponsor for the rear filler panel. if you have an open trailor this is the most visible part of the car as you're towing down the highway or even as people walk though the pits after the races. the sponsor loved it!! i'd have never thought of that sales pitch but it worked for him!

I don't have any sponsors that give me cash,
but I do receive free flywheels, front end parts, and all of my oil, fluids, filters, & oil additives are paid for by my sponsors.
I have an automotive repair shop that services my transmission when it gets tore up.

Some companies would rather work in the pay as you race fashion, so much per week. See them on Monday for your last saturdays race. That way that aren't afraid you are going to take their money and not race, and you can keep them happy and up to date on your racing by seeing them during the week.
It seems to be an easier sell of $120.00 per race then $2400.00 at the beginning of the year

I bill all of my sponsors on a per race basis. So much for the nose, so much for the quarter, so much for the door etc.. The smallest spot runs $12.50 per race. A door runs $75.00. Sponsors tend to feel better about paying a little as you go as compared to a lump sum. Plus if I dont race they dont have to pay.

That's not a 1/2 bad idea--billing weekly...
I think mods relate pretty closely to non-touring LM'S so here's kinda what mine run:
top of deck $500
hood filler $250
bottom of hood (before air cleaner) $250
sail panel $250
spoiler $100
real filler $250
rear quarter $500-$1000
fender side $500-$1000

These are only guidelines for us, we do stray one way or the other. Our fender side sponsor also is on the trl and we do 3 autograph sessions for them along with a radio promo (they pay the radio gig ala sale weekends) They pay $2000

Our sail panel sponsor pays for air filters--1 filter per week X 24 or so weeks X $10ea.

Our top of the deck spoonsor is also our engine builder and we buy all parts (for the engine) at cost & get assembly at 1/2 price.

The spolier sponsor pays for oil filters for the year approx $125 when it's figured out.

I will also add more if they go on the back door of the trl.

Hope that helps alittle.

Thanks for all the ideas!!! I especially like the one of promoting the back because it is whats seen on the trailer going down the road. And i had never thought about doing the deal paying each time we go to the track. We have one sponsor that is going to give us oil and filters. We are thinking we can get a few more especially since 10 races this year are going to be televised. I just didn't know what to ask. Thanks guys.
