Week Two in Winter Series belongs to Chadwick
By Sandy Combs
PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 25) - The second week of the Barnett Harley-Davidson Winter Series for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds produced the first win of the season for Kellen Chadwick.
Taking the lead for good on the 17th of 30 laps at Canyon Raceway, Chadwick collected $2,000 in addition to the checkers. Robert King Jr. was second and J.J. Harpole Jr. was promoted to third after Randy McDaniel refused an engine claim.
Rounding out the top four was John Hansen.
In contrast to the series opener a week before, the feature went to the halfway mark without a yellow. McDaniel ran at the front of the pack, surrendering the lead briefly to Chadwick on the 11th circuit.
Two cautions interrupted the action on lap 15. Chadwick took the lead for good two laps later and the final yellow came following a four-car mixup on the 20th circuit.
King snuck into second with three laps left.
Jim Bonetti was 10th, Christy Georges 13th and Scott Logston 17th, a combination that has those three drivers tied for first in the point standings with two races down and Feb. 1 and 8 events to go.
Steve Bitting Jr. won the pure stock feature for the second week in a row and Chris Christiansen prevailed in the bomber main.
