He’s Bob Pohlman Jr., and he just won $1000 at Hartford Speedway Park Friday nights. Driving a Pierce chassis with a N.A.C. engine, Pohlman made the haul from Oak Lawn, Illinois, and won the 30 lap Open Modified feature. Kankakee on Friday and La Salle on Saturday is usually where you’ll find him behind the wheel of the blue number 27 dirt late model.
Pohlman made his presence felt Friday as he battled and beat Ryan Disterheft in heat one of the Mod show. Scott Martin took heat two over Curt Spalding and JR Hotovy took heat three ahead of Kevin Wadkins. In the feature it was Bill Davis leading from the pole and finally surrendering to Pohlman on lap 12. Lots of action all through the pack and it was Pohlman, Davis, Spalding, Martin, Hotovy, Wadkins, Dave Pries and Disterheft at the wire.
Once again it was Todd Atherton in victory lane at the end of the Factory Stock feature. This was Atherton’s seventh feature win as he finished a hard fought race ahead of Mark Peterson. Chris May, Mark Lambrecht, and Mike Hoffman. Phil Ausra took the “B” feature over Ron Vance, Gary Meagher, Larry Arndt, and Bill Bammann. Heats went to Kelli Jo Hofacker, Atherton, and Brian Kierstead.
Super Stockers ran two heats with Curt Minton grabbing the first one ahead of a persistant Mark Wagner, and Dan Dykman besting Jerry Griffith in heat two.
Driving a Rayburn chassis with a Felice engine, it was Dan Dykman taking his third feature win in Super Stock competition. Mark Wagner, Zach Hanson, Jerry Griffith and Shawn McLaughlin followed Dykman at the checkers.
Mechanics races were held in all classes and it was Todd Hammond over James Burroughs in Super Stocks, Mike Hollofield over Tom Disterheft in Mod action, and Brian Eubanks in the Tober Mopar over Kim Hoppe in Factory Stocks. It was also “Goodyear Night” at the track with bonus money paid n the Factory and Super Stock classes.
