Six dates so far for new Empire State Series
VINTON, Iowa (May 16) – Six events are on the schedule so far, with hopes to add at least two more races in the inaugural Empire State Series for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Modifieds.
Four of the signed dates are at New York dirt tracks that run the sanctioned class weekly, starting with the series opener on June 20 at Can-Am Motorsports Park.
Skyline Raceway, Brewerton Speedway and Fonda Speedway are also very familiar venues for I.M.C.A. competitors, who will also venture to Wyoming County Speedway and Oswego Speedway to test their skills on pavement.
Both Oswego and Wyoming County hosted special races for the Modifieds last season.
“We are still looking to add two more asphalt races to this series to give it a four and four balance,” I.M.C.A. Vice President of Operations Brett Root said. “When the series is completed, we’ll recognize the driver with the highest point total overall and those with the most points earned on dirt and on asphalt.”
All features will pay approximately $400 to win and $50 to start. A point fund will be established and I.M.C.A.’s 40-point system will be used to determine series standings.
Points earned at all Empire State Series events also count toward national, regional and state totals. The series championship will also count as track titles in I.M.C.A.’s post-season tiebreaking procedure to determine national and regional point standings.
Dirt Works Northeastern Region Director Ed Billings will attend each event. Questions about the series can be directed to Root at (319) 472-2201 or Billings at (607) 722-6751.
