Battle Mountain sanctions Modifieds with I.M.C.A.
BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. (March 14) - I.M.C.A.-sanctioned Modifieds have been added to the every-other-Saturday program at Battle Mountain Raceway this season.
Opening night at the north-central Nevada speedplant is set for May 11, with the schedule of events alternating with races at Summit Raceway in Elko.
"Sanctioning with I.M.C.A. is something we've discussed for a couple years and we decided to do it this season," said Donna Fairbanks, secretary-treasurer of the Battle Mountain Racing Association. "We're going to concentrate on building our every-other-week program and hope to schedule a special event at the end of the season."
Angela Gonzales is president of the BMRA and vice president is Debra Norman. Fairbanks' husband Marvin is in charge of track preparation and tech inspection.
The 1/4 mile dirt track was built about 30 years ago. It's been operated and promoted by the BMRA, a non-profit group, for the past decade.
The racing surface has been re-banked to a 4-5 percent grade and a new retaining wall will be in place. The regular points season runs to Aug. 17.
"It ought to be pretty fun," Mrs. Fairbanks said.
