Icebreaker sees trio of double winners
ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 22-23) - Elmer Morgan and Bill Richards were double winners in the Icebreaker at Abilene Speedway.
Tim Clonch accomplished the same feat, in different cars.
Four I.M.C.A. sanctioned classes made up the Friday and Saturday programs. Morgan, the defending national Sprint Car champion, looked to be in mid-season form by winning both nights. He took the checkers in front of James Burrows on Friday and before Russ Fletcher on Saturday.
Long-tow Bill Richards was also a double winner as Iowans went 1-2 in the Hobby Stock division both nights. Bill Bonnett ran second on Friday and Jason Murray chased Richards to the finish the next evening.
Clonch topped Friday's Stock Car feature and Saturday's Modified main. He'd become the weekend's only three-time winner with a late-race pass that took him to the front of the Day Motorsports Texas Super Sunday Series feature for the Stocks.
David Elliott was the Modified winner Friday night. Iowan and Stock Car rookie Damon Murty won the Saturday race for that division.
