Consistent Mohon tops Smiley's series standings
GREENVILLE, Texas (Feb. 17) - Three races in three days saw three different drivers in Superbowl Speedway's victory lane.
It was Mark Mohon, however, winning bragging rights as far as the Smiley's I.M.C.A. Sunoco Stock Car Series championship was concerned.
Mohon put together ninth-, second- and third-place finishes over the course of the Friday-Saturday-Sunday triple-header. He'd run fourth in the series opener back on Jan. 26 and that consistency added up to a comfortable 16 point margin over runner-up Duain Pritchett.
Jeff Turner followed his opening night win with the Friday night checkers but finished at or near the back the next two evenings, ending up third in the overall points race.
Jimmy Day went from last Friday to first on Saturday, while Tim Clonch topped Sunday's finale.
Each feature race paid $500 to win. Two other scheduled events were rained out.
