When looking at the front of the engine, Which direction do you turn the cam in order to advance...?

Against (opposite) the rotation of the engine

Please no offense Racerman. Cam advance works the same as distributor advance. To advance turn the cam into, against, or toward, your choice of terms, the direction of rotation. To turn the cam with the rotation would retard it. Advance increases when the cam is rotated against the rotation of the cam drive. Doing this allows a point on the cam to reach a point on the cam drive sooner thus advancing.

Turning the cam against rotation would retard it.

lean the lobes toward the carb side.
