I have an '89 Cavalier FWD (2.0 L)that I'm prepping for Hobby Stock class & I was wondering if there are strut replacement coil springs available in different spring loads for this car? Does anyone have any experience with replacing stock springs with stiffer springs?

Also what about rear coil springs. Are there other coil springs available besides stock replacements? I'm looking for a place I can order from.

Any help would be appreciated...I'm brand new at this....

Hey jimshar,

Thanks for the info. I went to daymotorsports & all I saw was coil springs at same diameter on each end (unless I didn't look in the right place). My Cavalier has a different diameter on each end so are my only options to order stock replacement springs from the local auto parts store?

Just trying to figure all this new stuff out....any help would be appreciated.

Almost all race springs have the same diameter top and bottom. I had the same problem with my Toyota, but I put a flat spacer over the strut that rested on the bottom spring plate. That allowed me to use the race spring. Otherwise if you find other springs that might fit from the junkyards you are just guessing at spring rates. I also put a plate on the top to sandwich the spring.

Good luck

Russ
