I was wondering if anyone can explain all the different casting #'s on the 2.3 blocks. I have been told to look for so many different things I'm all confused now. I like to know which one has the 5.7 rods which ones have lighter cranks any info would be gladly appreciated. Thanks

the casting #s I not real sure about , but I have read on here about them , engines with 5.7 rods are not factory rods the 2300 comes with 5.2 rods and there is a 5.4 factory rod used with a 2500 crank, kits are available from www.race engineering.com as far as light cranks again they are made/fabircated for racing ,the above site can help with just about anything concerning the ford 2300 engine.

New model 2.3s have a smaller main journal size. Rod journals are the same size. What are you trying to build and we should be able to help.

Its not what I am trying to build. My dad has 30 or so brand new short blocks and I think a few longblock 2.3s left. And we get emails left and right about casting numbers and they are asking everything from 5.7 rods to lighter cranks I was just wondering if there was some way reading all this. Thanks

ok you can tell them the year of the block by looking at the numbers on the side first there will be a letter D or E or F. These stand for the decadeD=70's E=80's F=90's. After that there will be a number and that designates what year. so you would se D4 that would mean 1974. 5.2 rods in everything that I know of until like 94 or 5 than they put 5.45 or so rods in in the 2500. The small journal crank came out around 1988 or so. Hope this helps Bobby
