I have been given an 85 pontiac grand prix and was just wondering if it would make a decent mini stock for my soon to be 16 year old son I help a co worker on his imca modified but have never paid much attention to the mini stocks.

NO- on the '85 Grand Prix! I'll hit a few reasons why. Your rules max wheelbase 103". Grand Prix is about a 108". Weight - your rules NO minimun weight. Grand Prix is going come in about 3000-3500. (i think the light-est we ever got one was about 2500-2600, it's been a while. Any way you would be spotting about 500-1000 lbs, that's huge for a four cly. I think '85 Grand Prix was only a 6 or 8 cly. Your best choice is mustang- then toyota celica (not the best front end for new driver) or maybe toyota corolla. Your big expense is going to be the roll cage. Crushers are bringing about $65.00 a ton. There is some monies for some pipe for a roll cage.
