The better you go through the corners the more speed you'll see all the way around. What's your final gear?

7800 is not too bad an rpm. A stock bottom end with good rod bolts should take that just fine. I would change the rear gear to be able to run 2nd gear in the tranny and still pull near the same rpm. I found with my motor combo it didn't really pull good till I got over 6000 or so. I ran a 318 rear gear and 2nd gear (214) in the tranny and turned about 7500 on a 3/8th mile. I would have liked to get a few more rpms out of it though.

That's a lot of rotating weight for a 2300 to turn.I would use a 7.5 rear end.

If you are going to run that 9" rear, why not go with the correct gear to use 4th gear???? There are several ways to get more off the turns and not all of it is with the gearing. Some tuning on the engine can help and also handling is very important. We ran a very mild engine combo but worked with the handling and that is where we really ran away. No one could run with us in the turns. Won 9 of 16 races entered last year.

An 8" rearend has many gears available and is much lighter. You can find them in some older Mustang II and Pintos. I think the old Mavericks had them also. You can even get full spools for them.

Another option is the 7.5 limited slip. Very tough to beat in my opinion.
