Once you're at race speeds you shouldn't need power steering unless you have a quickener.Do you need power steering with a quickener?
i don't know as I've never used one but would like to try it if it can be done without power steering.Anybody??

I run a 1.5:1 quickener without power steering and it is fine to me. The only problem is when youre stopped and trying to turn. I like not having it because you can feel what the car is doing through the steering.

Neither the Dodge we ran last year or the MGB_GT running this yera have power steering. Iprefer not to have it as it gives me a better feel of the car. In truth it like a lot of things comes down to what YOU prefer..

When i first got started in racing about 5 years ago I ran a mustang mini stock with 2:1 quickener and no power steering, was very hard to turn sitting still but once you got to moving you couldnt even tell. I think that mini stocks are too light, and the tires are thin enough that its not even needed.

I'm not tryin to be an *** or anything but 2:1 quickeners are supposed to be used with power steering, at least thats what AFCO says. Btw, how wide were the tires you guys ran?

Hey guys I used to run a stret stock, pro stock, super stock what ever you want to call it and needed power steering, but since dropping to the mini class i dont run it i have 2 cars one withthe power steering rack and without like it has been said they are light and it is not needed I would prefer to use that hp to get the car around the track.
And this is my opinion. Good luck to everyone this year. Lets all go kick ****

I ran without the power and with it in the same car, and although the power steer does rob horsepower, the benefit of being fresh after 20 laps when the guys without it were tiring made for better race results. And yes, I run a quickener.

Have ran it both ways and agree with Mr Scott , power steering is the only way to go

A 1.5 quickner with a manual rack is ok. But if you run a powersteering rack with the lines plugged don't run the quickner. My two cents.

we run a 1/3 mile dirt not clay oval here in NY and we dont use the power steering. we use the power rack the plumbing is closed but not all the way it has to breathe also the pump just burns up horse power and thats what we all like and look for, more horse power. but this is just my opinion and thats free(until the goverment. wants to tax that!)
