For the past two weeks the temps on my car are runnimg up to about 230-240. Is this normal? I feel no loss in power. The radiator isn't plugged up and I am dumbfounded. Am I just ignorant is is that too high? I am running only water in the system. Also when I came off the track and pressed the clutch the oil pressure fell down to about 15 psi, I have never seen that before. What would cause that? Thanks for the help.

190-220 would be normal. What does your plugs look like. Are you running a thermostat.

It's an aluminum radiator, plastic fan(non-electric). What is a restricter? (sorry for the ignorance of a 14 year old.)

A restrictor goes in the place of the thermostat. If the water circulates too fast through the radiator it doesn't have time to get cooled the way it should. We run a washer with a 5/8 hole in it to slow the water down. A thermostat with the guts still in it could hang is why we run a restrictor. The bigger the hole in the restrictor, the faster the water will go through the radiator. My motor ran 210 with a gutted thermostat. When I put the 5/8 restrictor in it ran 170 to 180.

Okay, now I know what to check but what SHOULD the plugs look like and what SHOULD the timing be? I don't have a restrictor in my car. I need to know what they should be because I won't get to mess with it till Wed. because I have a half day that day.

I set my timing btwn 36-38 IF I was you start lower so you don;t burn your motor. What all is done to your motor what kind of motor what cam etc. Are you running alocked dist. the plugs should look a real tan almost white color. If your plugs are real white than you need to fatten your jets. Later Bobby

To be honest, we have no Idea what is done to it. The guy we bought it from had somebody else do all the work on it for him so he has no idea what is done to it. The only thing we know about the motor is the crank is balanced. We haven't torn it down to find out. O well, I'm gettin a new car Wed. It's a brand new Boyd Chassis car that won the Mr. Bud race down here. 4 races on the motor. I will be fast soon.

You can buy the fastest car there is, but with out the changes needed week to week and learning the setups needed you may not be any faster. Good Luck.

I run half the motor but run twice the speed.

The oil pressure is low because the engine is so hot.Better check your plugs FIRST before the pistons melt. Then make sure the timing is right.I run 36 degrees on mine.By the way, what engine do you run?

I know that just because you have a fast car you won't neccessarily be fast. I understand that week to week adjustments need to be made in order for everything to go smooth. Just because I am 14 doesn't mean I'm a retard. Please don't think I'm stupid just because I'm young. I was kidding when I said "I will be fast soon". It was supposed to be a joke. Every week when my brother was driving the car I am now (last season) I would be the one messing with it. I can assume the responsibility of maintaning a car. The only reason I came to this forum was to have somewhere to ask questions if I need to. Racerman707: I run a Ford 2.3. That is what i guessed about the oil but didn't know it was right.

PinThunderStang// Sorry if I offended you. Did not mean it like that. I just see a lot of people dumpping tons of money in there cars and not going any faster. In fact I my self changed to a large cam that made so much power I could not get it to the track. I now run a much smaller cam and go much faster. I due like seeing young drives learning and asking questions. It makes all the racing more competive. Good Luck

bicityracer: Appology accepted. I am sorry I took your statement the wrong way. I hear so much stuff like " Oh, your 14, what do you think your doing trying to drive?" It really anoys me and I automatically assume someone is trying to bash me or something.

Pin...That feeling of everybody underestimates you will not go away easy.Get 4 or 5 veteran drivers together and its easy for them to poke fun at the younger driver.I know this from experience. All you can do is the best you can and they will give you the respect youre after. Run your car the way you think will be fastest and when somebody gives you advise don't jump into changing your car to get it like someone else's or you'll never outrun them...just follow them.

Fixed the problem. I cut out the part of my nose that would be the grill ( I run a plastic mustang nose) and covered it with screen to keep mud out. Temp sat at 180 all night long.
