I am probably going to build an s10 to race next year. I have been thinking about different routes to go with it. I will be running on a 4/10 mile semi banked dirt track. The weight rule says 1lb per cc. I am running a 2500. I am going to run the leaf springs, obviously... What rate springs should I run? Also, what about running a powerglide? Would it be worth the effort? If so, what rear end gear should i run? What about front spring rates? Should i use different sized lowering blocks? Of the 2 trucks i am looking at buying to turn into racetrucks, one has a regular cab, 6 foot box, the other has a club cab, with a 6 foot box, which i could move the seat back, but i would imagine has a slightly longer wheelbase. Any suggestions or thoughts?

The rules are at www.thenewaftonspeedway.com 4 cylinder stock rules. The rules dont say you can run a truck, but they dont say you cant, and they dont enforce the body or frame rules very well, as you can tell when you see a picture of the champions car... thanks

Umm, I read your rules and it is very apparent that trucks are not allowed. Even putting a car body on a truck is not allowed. Before building anything, I suggest you talk with your track and the tech people. Who knows, they might approve their use and amend the rules.

Just a thought...

As i stated before, they dont use the rulebook too much. They have said they will let me run a truck just because it is an added car to the field. Some more questions... I have heard that the s10 isnt worth building because of weight and the cost of building a 2500. I have heard the couriers are good, toyotas, datsuns, mazdas. Im pretty open to ideas because i havent started building it yet and my knowledge of motors are limited to 2300 fords and chevy 350's... Any ideas anyone?

I would look in to a toyota pickup with the 22r. There are all kinds of parts avalible.
Or go for the ford courier and us a 2.3 ford motor.

There aren't too many parts avalible for mazdas. Nisson has a lot of parts avalible too.

I currently run a Corolla 1.8 and It out runs most of the 2.3 mustangs.

well those rules are pretty restrictive to me.has anyone else tried to run a truck there?if you build this truck, you better check around to see if there are any tracks within a reasonable towing distance from your shop, just in case!I have gone to a lot of tracks that supposedly don't pay "attention" to their rules but can get "picky" fast!!if they are having a car count problem at your track they may let you run,but if you "smoke the competition"pretty bad you can look for them to complain about you to the track real fast, and want your truck outlawed all togather. hope this helps you out!!!
