Nate,
We ran a Dodge Colt all year. At the start of the year we were lucky to finish on the same lap as the Mustangs and Pintos. By the end of the year (changed the stock carb for a 32/36 Weber, re-built the back suspension and adjusted timeing and weight) we had a car that could stay with, but not out run them down the straight. Corners were a different thing we had them dead in them. Oh yeah we only had the 1600cc engine. Next year we go to the 2300cc that they came otu with too and I expect we will win a couple.

We run on a 1/3 mile track. Funnily the quickest car on the track, this year, was a Honda Civic (1500cc) that ran in Hornets - did low 21sec laps. Super stock did high 21s.
