I am building a Ford Probe to race in the Hornet class and I would really like to put an 8 gallon fuel cell in the car. My question is do you have to get another fuel pump or is there a way to safely rig the existing pump to work with a fuel cell. I about fell over when I looked in the manual and saw it should have 35-40 lbs. of fuel pressure! The stock pump mounts in the fuel tank of the car.

I will assume your Hornet class is similar to what we call an Enduro here in the Northeast. So you'd want to keep expenses to a minimum.

You can use the stock pump. Mount it into the fuel cell where the pickup would go for a mechanical pump. You will have to do some cutting. But it can be done.

If you go to an aftermarket inline pump, like the Holley HLY-12-920. You will need to wire it through the engine's oil pressure switch. You'd be better off trying to mount the factory pump.
