Mustang questions here. In the process of picking up a extra motor I run across a mid 80ís mustang with a 2.3. 1st question is that it has an automatic in it, now is the bolt pattern match the bellhousing on my 4 sp? Will all my clutch bolt up ok? Also this body is not the hatch back model. It is coup I guess they called it? Didnít I read on here at some point that that is a lighter car? Mine is the hatchback I guess they called it (whole back lifts up). Wonder if the automatic had a lower gear rear end. Anyway will go look at it tomorrow I think.
Anyway the two main questions are
1..are the basic rear end of the motor the same?
2..is the coupe model lighter?
3..might the gearing be different in the rearend out of a automatic than on a standard?
Any help will be appreciated
PS..reason for motor..blew ours up.....big time. see story at http://notn.tripod.com/fizzbomb.html
thanks...notn

You will probably find that you have a 3.73 gear in the rear end of it. If it had an auto tranny with overdrive that is. When the hatch back and the coupe are both stripped down , there is very little weight difference. Hope this helps

from what I have been told that with the hatch back they have to use thicker flooring in the rear to make up for not having bracing across the back. BObby

well darn enough if the rearend is a 308 just like we have but got a 72 5.0 gt body here also with a positrack in it, tag tore off so don't know what ratio it is. will pull it and pop it open and do the math. think I will build the coup for next year. I see smith offers a book on building a mustang III (fox body) for the dirt and the pic showes a coup so if its good enough for steve smith its good enough for me I guess. anyone got that book...is it worth the 25 bucks?
thanks for the input

It came out 2 weeks ago. If you are just starting on a mustang it's worth the 25 bucks
After waiting 7 months for it I had hoped it would have more but sill worth the money.
