I will be racing in the "Hornet" class at several different tracks ranging in size from 1/5 to 1/3(all are dirt) and was wondering if anyone prefered automatics to standard shift. My thinking is a manual shift would be better, but then again when I started looking for a car, my thinking was rear wheel drive, NO dodge Omni's, LOL! After reading quite a few of the posts on here, it seems like the front-wheel drives are better, the suspension on an Omni can be worked on fairly easy, so I thought I would get some other opinions on the transmissions as well. As far as rules go, basically strictly stock with only safety modifications, wheels must be same size all the way around, either a 30psi or 50psi on all tires, some type of claim for the entire car(amount varies track to track; up to 600$)all in all these rules seem to be typical at most dirt tracks in Illinois and eastern Missourri. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for your replies.

I have been told by reliable sources that auto's take to much horse power and I have saw this also a kid was running back of the pack getting lapped and he changed and went to the top 10 out of 20 so it from my point of view does hurt. Just my .02 BObby

a manual trans is the only way to go,unless you don't know how to shift the gears,or the rules don't allow them.
