Like I mentioned before, I am a 4cyl virgin so one more dumb question, Is there any aditional work to be done after milling the head? If the block is still stock.

Milling the head on an overhead cam engine like the 2.3 Ford changes the distance between the crankshaft and the cam shaft, which affects the cam timing.

For best performance, you should install an adjustable cam pulley and degree in the cam shaft.

Racer Walsh (www.racerwalsh.com) sells an adjustable cam pulley for $68. A nice degree wheel, a piston stop and a couple of mechanical lifters make this job much easier and more precise. I think you can get those items from Racer Walsh too.

Racer Walsh also has a great video on building up the Ford 2300. If you haven't worked on these engines much, I highly recommend it. Don't forget Steve Smith's Pony Stock book too.

degree wheels are almost useless on the ohc 2.3 ford unless you know exactly what you are looking for.for a newbie the best method to setup cam geometry would be to use Total Valve Lift as described in the back tech section of the esslinger catalog.perfect for solid lift cams.if you are running a hydraulic cam your should be more conerned with your lifter preload for simple reliability.being a 2.3 virgin, your best and most cost effective solution in the long run would be to have a pro build you a head for your particular rules.consider surfacing the block deck to up the compression ratio.

after you mill the head make sure that the oil passage in the back is clean and clear. Bobby
